Wednesday: Day 3 of the Fulbright Regional Conference in Kochi, India
Again this morning, I watched the sun rise on my way to breakfast. The waiter misunderstood my order for two fried eggs with bacon. Instead he brought me two orders of two fried eggs with bacon! I looked at that as if Fate was telling me to eat a big breakfast. It was delicious. I think my time here at the LeMeridien resort has replaced some calories in my body that may had been depleted over the past few months.
At a morning seminar, I listened to this presentation by a fellow Nepali Fulbright Scholar. This is representative of the esoteric Fulbright topics. But then again, I'm certain my fellow Fulbrighters thought my dental education topic to be "esoteric" too. This program actually made me realize that American Sign Language (ASL) is no more a universal language than is English. Because the alphabets are different, Nepali's have their own sign language.
At lunch, one of the buffet choices was tortilla soup. I thought it was fascinating to find such a culturally appropriated Mexican food served here. It was actually good -- very similar to a tortilla soup one might find at a US eatery.
My lunch table view looked at this tree. I found it to be well-proportioned and esthetically pleasing. It looked like a full-size bonsai.
We had the afternoon free. Some Fulbrighters went sightseeing, but since I had seen all of the Kochi sights when I visited here last month, I stayed at the resort. I caught up on some work from my desk. The hotel-room desk is quite comfortable with a sublime view. Later, I took a delightful nap!
My return flight to Kathmandu (via Delhi) tomorrow departs at 9:30AM, so I am scheduled to depart the hotel for the airport on a 5:35AM bus. It is going to be a long day. I have an 8 hour layover in Delhi and am scheduled to arrive in KTM after 10:30PM. With the long Delhi layover, maybe I can replace some more lost calories with McDonalds, Subway and Dominos Pizza at the international terminal food court!
Time to get packed!
