Later Thursday -- I travelled to Dhaka, Bangladesh!

Dash and Nisha picked me up in a taxi and we were driven to the KTM airport. We had a Biman Airlines flight to Dhaka, Bangladesh. I had a window seat with an empty middle seat. Biman is the government airline of Bangladesh. The in-flight food was gross. but I was hungry and uncertain when I might next eat, so I had this "cheese sandwich."

This was the view as we were landing in Dhaka. Dhaka has 30 million people (about the same as Tokyo and all of Nepal).

After lengthy line-waits to get an on-arrival visa ($50), we got our luggage and arranged a ride to our hotel. Dhaka traffic is notoriously horrible. All of the tuk-tuks have wire window screens to keep thieves from reaching in and purse/jewelry snatching. Dash had warned me not to wear my watch to Dhaka.

As we were stuck in traffic, this street seller sold Dash some guava pieces with honey. Because Dash went to dental school in Dhaka 20 years ago, he speaks the language.

We saw the sunset from our airport ride.

The hotel was pretty good. I had hot showers there and AC (it was quite warm). I was in room 406 (Montana's area code)!

We had some appetizers at the hotel before going out for a walk-about. On the left is Dash's Kathmandu lab manager, Bina.

This is the view of the street from my room.

These bicycle rickshaws are ubiquitous.

And then we went for a long walk. The city is very crowded.

Then we stopped at a small place for dinner. I didn't eat this, but supposedly it is great Bangladeshi food. These pastry balls are filled with mashed potatoes and spices.

The Dash & Nisha got in one rickshaw and Bina and I got another.

We ended up at the international student hostel where Dash and Anil lived 20 years ago. Dash even recognized a guy there that he used to play table tennis with. From there we rickshawed to the hotel and I slept!
