We got an early start today, returning to Kathmandu valley, to avoid the afternoon road construction delays. I had a light breakfast and we were off on a nearly 6 hour drive. The EV car was fully charged was fully charged and made it to Kathmandu on about 70% of the battery.
We stopped for snacks and a bathroom break along the way.
I saw this tunnel under construction. It reminds me of the Eisenhower Tunnel west of Denver. It will save a long 3,000 or 4,000 switchback climb when it is completed.
In Kathmandu, I saw these soldiers riding in the back of a truck. I remember those days in the US...
At the Kafle's house, we enjoyed a great lunch while the car got recharged. This is the view from their upper balcony.
I am always amazed how other cultures eat. I am fascinated by how Chinese and Japanese can use chopsticks so well. Traditional Nepali's use their right hand without silverware. At lunch, I was fascinated to watch Nisha and Dash's parents eat this way. Although I used a spoon, I did eat rice with my fingers last night at the campfire!
This is a guava. Until yesterday, I had only had guava juice. I didn't even know what a guava looked like. Now I know! It has a texture and taste reminiscent of an apple, but with lots of small hard seeds. It was really good.
This river in Kathmandu smells like sewage.
Once the car was charged, Dash and I began our travel to Dhulikhel. Enroute, we stopped at the 3-D dental printing lab that Dash co-owns. I was super impressed. He had described it to me -- and I was expecting a single room with a single lab tech. No, He has an 8 room building space with maybe 7 3-D printers and 9 employees! They are doing some really cool dental lab work here. Primarily they print orthodontic models and make "aligners," but other products are also fabricated. This is a rapidly growing business.
When I arrived back at my room in Dhulikhel after nearly a week's absence, I found this light on. You may recall from a blog post last month that this light wasn't working and I had even bought a new bulb/tube without any light. Amazingly, now it works!
This light is like everything in my life this past week and past 2 months -- everything just magically works out perfectly. Is it good fortune or dumb luck? The trip to Chitwan was a prime example of how everything timed out perfectly -- including seeing so many animals. I am so glad that the Kafle's invited me and that I accepted their offer. It was a remarkable experience.
I am staying Wednesday night at Dhulikhel and then early Thursday I am getting back to Kathmandu and flying to Colombo, Sri Lanka. Stayed tuned for that upcoming adventure!
