New Year's Day 2023
No, I n didn't get this blog posted because I was hungover from my New Years celebrating. In fact, I was asleep by 8 PM on NYE. It was really delayed because nothing especially fascinating happened --despite the fact that it was now 2023. I had my typical Kumari Inn breakfast and then Dr. Kafle drove me back to Dhulikhel and I used the day to get reorganized for the days and weeks ahead.
It is cold! My rooms both at Dhuilikhel and at the Kumari Inn have doors and windows that really don't seal/close -- I can see light through their edges and feel the draft. More amazing is how the locals take the cold in stride --largely without complaint -- all while wearing thin clothing!
In the late afternoon, I walked 1/2 mile to a restaurant where I ordered spaghetti with "pomodoro sauce." According to the menu, I could get my pasta with either pomodoro sauce or marinara sauce. I wasn't sure about the difference, so I chose pomodoro. It wasn't great, but it was warm and filling. I washed it down with a coca-cola. My meal costless than $4 US.
I finished reading Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer and also finished Discipline is Destiny by Ryan Holiday. The former is a classic, now 25 years old! The latter is an interesting grouping of biographical stories surrounding the theme of achieving/maintaining self-control for personal success.
