Monday: Return to Dehli and stop by Lord Krishna's Birthplace Temple
We were on the road early Monday morning squeezed into a smaller vehicle for the return trip to Delhi.
The air pollution was absolutely horrible the entire drive.
Once we got off the tollroad we saw what rural life is really like. many ox-carts pulled by Brahma cattle. We even saw one cart pulled by a camel. It is like the 1820's in many ways. We stopped to visit the Hindu deity, Lord Krishna's birthplace temple. I'll try to describe this to you, but my words will fail to paint an adequate picture. Our driver dropped us off some distance from the temple because the streets became too narrow. We then took a tuk-tuk a ways closer and then walked through narrow twisting alleyways clogged with throngs of people. Some were the devout here to worship at the temple and other were opportunist seller trying to extract money from the crowds. It was pandemonium and chaos. It was noisy. Men were urinating in public. We managed to get to within 200 meters of the temple and Dash, Nisha and I were overwhelmed enough to abort this quest. However, Neha, is seriously devout and it was important for her to see the temple. So those 4 took off their shoes (required -yuk, in the urine-soaked streets) and waded through the crowds. They managed to get inside the temple and took this photo before retreating. Dash, Nisha and I headed back towards the car. I could have never found my way out of that crowded maze without them, I felt reassured that Nisha was holding onto me. It was an overwhelming experience.
